Product description
Vipow 6V/4.5Ah gel battery
Gel batteries have become an alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries. Unlike lead-acid batteries, gel models are maintenance-free, meaning they do not require topping up with electrolyte. Their advantages include a sealed casing and gel electrolyte. This ensures trouble-free operation, allows the battery to be stored in any position and offers greater resistance to impact.
Lifespan of a gel battery
One of the greatest advantages of gel batteries is their long lifespan. Of all the batteries available on the market, this type boasts the longest lifespan, as they can last for several years when used correctly. Importantly, gel batteries are also more resistant to changing and extreme weather conditions.
Self-discharge (25 °C)
Gel batteries can be stored for many months without recharging. Their capacity decreases to: • 91 per cent after 3 months • 82 per cent after 6 months • 64 per cent after 9 months
Choosing a gel battery
The right dimensions aren’t everything. When choosing a battery, pay attention to its capacity – it should not be more than 110 per cent or less than 90 per cent of the capacity recommended for the device you plan to power. The output voltage is also important; it must be very close to the recommended value (+/- 0.2 V).
Applications of gel batteries
Gel batteries are used in applications such as motorbikes, golf buggies and lawnmowers. They are also used in uninterruptible power supplies, photovoltaic systems, alarms and electric toys. These batteries can also be found in vehicles with a large number of electrical appliances, such as caravans. In these cases, they are not used to start the vehicle, but to power electronic devices.
Choose a charger for your gel battery
For the charger to work correctly and prevent damage to the battery, it must have the correct current and voltage. These values will vary during the different stages of charging, so it is worth choosing an automatic charger that not only adjusts the charging current and voltage but also switches off when the battery is fully charged.
NOTE: The charger is not included in the pack.
