Description
Garmin Venu 2 - second generation of elegant sports GPS watch with AMOLED display
The Venu 2 series comes in two new sizes, just like the Vivoactive 4 series. The larger of the watches has a diameter of 45mm, a display diagonal of 1.3" with a resolution of 416x416 pixels. The smaller version (Venu 2s) has a diameter of 40mm, a display diagonal of 1, 1" with a resolution of 360x360 pixels. Compared to the previous generation of Venu watches, here we find a new generation of optical heart rate sensor with faster and more accurate measurement of blood oxygenation and a newer GNSS module. The watch's graphics and animations have also undergone a significant redesign, a detailed sleep evaluation has been added directly in the watch, advanced strength training with a display of the muscle parts involved, a HIIT profile, fitness age according to fitness and the ability to evaluate the health status within two minutes, taking into account blood oxygenation, stress level, breathing rate and average heart rate.
Garmin Venu 2 is an elegant, smart and sporty versatile GPS watch. Compared to regular Garmin watches, they are distinguished by the technology of the display used. The Garmin Venu 2 uses a high-brightness, high-resolution AMOLED touchscreen, while most other Garmin watches use transflective or LCD display technology. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each technology?
Transflective displays have the advantage of low energy consumption and at the same time excellent readability in direct sunlight. Incoming sunlight basically illuminates the display. Transflective displays are always visible on the watch, the watch does not go out. However, these have a lower resolution and the displayed image is coarser compared to AMOLED displays. The watch with transflective display offers longer battery life on 1 charge.
AMOLED displays are more energy-intensive than transflective displays, but tend to have a higher resolution. The display image is smoother and at the same time significantly brighter, the AMOLED display has significant brightness compared to the transflective display, but not as good readability in direct sunlight. Due to higher consumption, AMOLED displays are usually turned off and turn on when you want to look at the display or when a message from a mobile phone appears on the display (However, continuous lighting can also be set for Garmin VENU watches). Display dimming is used to achieve longer battery life.
Liquid crystal displays have very similar properties to AMOLED displays, but they do not achieve such a strong contrast. Individual pixels are not a light source here and the display uses surface backlighting. At first glance, they are indistinguishable from AMOLED technology, and they also use display dimming to achieve longer endurance (again, it is possible to set the continuous lighting mode at the expense of endurance)

POWER MANAGEMENT - One of the new functions of the watch is the management of the power consumption of the watch. If necessary, it is possible to turn on battery saving, thereby limiting some functions of the watch, but obtaining up to 4x longer endurance per charge.
APPLICATIONS FOR SPORTS - The Garmin VENU watch is a multi-purpose watch that allows you to measure the following activities: Running, Indoor track, Treadmill, Bike, Indoor bike, Walking, Indoor walking Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross-country skiing, Swimming in the pool, SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board ), Rowing, Indoor Rowing, Pilates, Yoga, Stepper, Elliptical, Cardio, Strength, Golf, Navigate, Breathing, HIIT, Health Snapshot, Indoor Climbing, Bouldering, Other (allows you to create a custom activity). The watch can be further expanded with third-party applications, e.g. InLine skating, Horse riding and the like.
ANIMATED EXERCISES - Instead of searching for training videos, you can simply exercise according to animations directly on the watch display. Activate instructional animations for strength and cardio training, yoga or pilates. Animations are available for pre-installed workouts and for workouts downloaded from Garmin Connect™.
DETAILED STRENGTH TRAINING - The watch contains pre-played strength training including a graphic display of muscle groups for individual exercises. This can help focus on the desired muscle group during exercise.
HEART MEASUREMENT ON THE WRIST - The watch continuously measures the heart rate throughout the day and records the measured data in its memory. By evaluating the data measured in this way, you will get the value of the average resting heart rate, which can indicate accumulating fatigue and overtraining. With the help of heart rate variability, the Stress score monitors the load on the body and also the course of regeneration after a demanding sports performance. A simple evaluation of this data is available using the BODY BATTERY indicator, which displays the degree of fatigue with a single number, which decreases during loading and increases during regeneration and sleep.
DAILY ACTIVITY MONITOR - During the day, in addition to heart rate, the watch also continuously measures the number of steps, distance traveled, floors climbed, calories burned, length and quality of sleep. Venu 2 also now offers a detailed evaluation for sleep directly on the watch display.
Waterproof design up to 5 ATM.
DATA FIELD - Color AMOLED used, the touch screen stands out for its color presentation and high resolution. The watch has an ambient light sensor and is able to adjust the brightness of the display so that it is easy to read in all conditions. The numerical data that the watch displays during sports activity is displayed in a bold font. The number of data fields and the size of the displayed data can be easily adjusted so that the values you want to monitor are displayed on the display and at the same time they are displayed in a size that suits you. The display is basically set to save battery so that it turns off after some time. This can be adjusted in the watch menu and left permanently on, but at the expense of battery life.
MUSIC - The watch allows you to either synchronize playlists from selected music streaming services (such as Deezer, Amazon Music or Spotify®), upload songs from a computer to the internal memory using a USB cable, or control a connected mobile phone. If you're going to listen to music directly from the watch, all you have to do is connect any Bluetooth headphones and listen even without a phone within range. The watch can store up to 650 songs.
SMART NOTIFICATIONS - You can receive emails, texts and notifications on your watch when you pair it with a compatible Apple or Android smartphone. After connecting the phone, information about incoming calls, SMS and other notifications will appear on the watch display. You can control the music player on your phone from the watch display, including adjusting the volume or skipping songs. You can monitor weather forecast information, it is also possible to set phone numbers to which an emergency message will be sent if the watch automatically evaluates that an accident has occurred. When displaying incoming calls, not only the caller's number, but also the name, which is taken from the phone book, appears on the watch display.
WEATHER INFORMATION - In connection with a mobile phone, the watch can display detailed information about the current weather, hourly forecast, forecast for the next 4 days with the development of temperature and probability of precipitation.
ACCIDENT DETECTION - If the watch is connected to a smart mobile phone, it is possible to use security functions that will send information about the need for help to a pre-set phone number in the event of an emergency. The help request can be triggered manually or automatically. The Incident detection function automatically detects an accident and automatically sends a request for help in the event of an incident. The second option is the Assistance function, which can be used in an emergency and which you call up manually with a combination of keys. The security functions use the connected mobile phone and send the current position/location of the watch with a request for help.
GARMIN PAY™ CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS - GARMIN PAY contactless payments are among the most interesting smart watch functions. It is possible to register a classic payment card in the virtual wallet of the watch (the condition is that the issuing bank supports Garmin Pay payments) and then pay with the watch instead of your regular payment card. When paying, the watch does not require the presence of an original payment card, nor the need to have a connected mobile phone. The watch is completely separate for payment. Payment security is provided by a PIN code that you choose yourself when activating the wallet. As long as you don't take the watch off your wrist, it only requires a PIN code for the first payment. For all payments (even for payments over CZK 500), there is no need to subsequently enter a PIN code for payment at the merchant's payment terminal. Payments with watches have higher security than regular payment cards. The reason is that when paying with a watch, the terminals do not send complete information about the card number and its owner to each other. By not entering the PIN on the payment terminal at the same time, there is no risk of its disclosure. At the same time, of all the payment instruments, the watch is always at hand and the closest to the payment terminal. Payments by watch are thus very convenient and safe.
THIRD-PARTY APPLICATIONS - Thanks to the Connect IQ project, it is possible to download additional applications, special data fields, widgets and watch faces to the watch. The project was created several years ago and thus enabled computer enthusiasts and programmers to create their own applications. The vast majority of content is completely free, but you may also come across a paid app or skin. However, most developers try to get a small reward using a PayPal link, but whether you decide to support them in their work is up to you.
